The Z Playhouse in Mission Viejo is the perfect setting to see some of the funniest and entertaining stand-up comedians working in the business today. Located just off the 405 freeway, this venue seats up to 120 people so there isn’t a bad seat in the house. Come see some of your favorite comedians up close and personal and then be a part of our special meet and greet after the show.
How did stand-up comedy end up at a children’s theater?
The Z Playhouse is owned and operated by Stephen Zygo, who has been teaching children’s acting and theater for 20+ years in Orange County. Stephen was teaching classes at Camino Real Playhouse in San Juan Capistrano back in 2009 when Tom Riehl (current producer of Lass Your Aff Off! at The Z) and Ron Ruhman started producing their monthly comedy shows there. Stephen actually knew Ron before that. Stephen eventually left Camino to pursue opening his own theater in Orange County but always stayed in touch with Tom and Ron. They talked about doing a show at Stephen’s place once he got settled in but nothing materialized.
Fast forward to November 2021. Things were just opening up from a year plus of Covid. Tom and Ron thought this was a good time to break from Camino after 12 successful years of producing comedy shows and pursue other venues. They had contacted Stephen a few months prior to leaving Camino and decided to do a test show December 2021. All went great and in March 2023 Lass Your Aff Off! became a monthly show at The Z Playhouse. Stand-up comedy found a new home in Mission Viejo boasting the same great lineups as in Sa Juan Capistrano with plenty of free parking to boot.
